A Legacy of Learning Since 1852
Olivia RCA School was founded in 1852 in Trois Îlots, with just 31 pupils, all children of formerly enslaved individuals. Over the decades, the school has grown and evolved, moving to several different buildings before settling in its current premises. In 1956, a significant milestone was reached when pupils moved into a new concrete building. The school continued to expand, notably in 1985 with the inauguration of additional classrooms supported by the World Bank. Further improvements included the construction of a multi-purpose hall in 2007, the establishment of a pre-primary section in 1996, and regular renovations to ensure a safe and stimulating environment. Today, Olivia RCA School remains a beacon of inclusive education, rooted in compassion and guided by the values of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus
Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, also known as Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, she is one of the most beloved saints of the Catholic Church. Declared Doctor of the Church and Patroness of the Missions, her spirituality is centered on doing small things with great love — a path known as the “little way.”
Her message inspires the daily life of the school:
“Whatever you do, even the smallest things, do it with love.”
Her feast day is celebrated on October 1st.
